V. A. Shiva Ayyadurai (creator of email)

In 1978, a 14-year-old named V.A. Shiva Ayyadurai developed a computer program, which replicated the features of the interoffice, inter-organizational paper mail system. He named his program “EMAIL”. Shiva filed an application for copyright in his program and in 1982 the United States Copyright Office issued a Certificate of Registration, No. TXu-111-775, to him on the program. As required by the Regulations of the Copyright Office, he deposited portions of the original source code with the program. Prominent in the code is the name “EMAIL” that he gave to the program. He received a second Certificate of Registration, No. TXu-108-715, for the “EMAIL User’s Manual” he had prepared to accompany the program and that taught unsophisticated user’s how to use EMAIL’s features.

Srinivasa Ramanujan

Born in Erode, Madras Presidency, to a poor Brahmin family, Ramanujan first encountered formal mathematics at age 10. He demonstrated a natural ability, and was given books on advanced trigonometry written by S. L. Loney. He mastered them by age 12, and even discovered theorems of his own, including independently re-discovering Euler's identity. He demonstrated unusual mathematical skills at school, winning accolades and awards. By 17, Ramanujan conducted his own mathematical research on Bernoulli numbers and the Euler–Mascheroni constant.Ramanujan is widely rated as the greatest mathematician of the 20th Century. A lot can be said about the work he has done and about his discoveries and his analytical theory of numbers and his works on elliptic functions, continued fractions, and infinite series

Sir C V Raman

Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman was an Indian physicist whose work was influential in the growth of science in India. He was the recipient of the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1930 for the discovery that when light traverses a transparent material, some of the light that is deflected changes in wavelength. This phenomenon is now called Raman scattering and is the result of the Raman effect.Born on 1888, Nov. 7 at Tiruchirappally, completed MA in 1907 from the Presidency College, Invention of various types of lasers during sixties enhanced the horizon of Raman Effect and a number of new terminologies started taking shape in the dictionary of science and technology. we celebrate ramans birthday as National Science Day.

K.R. Sridhar, Bloom Energy

Sridhar was awarded a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the National Institute of Technology at Tiruchirappalli, India and gained a M.S. and a PhD from University of Illinois , Sridhar was the director of the Space Technologies Laboratory at the University of Arizona . The Laboratory was asked by NASA to undertake research into how life could be made sustainable on Mars. In 2001, Sridhar was a co-founder of Ion America, later to become Bloom Energy founder with a mission to "make clean, reliable energy affordable for everyone on earth". Sridhar predicts that a $3000 box could be in every home within the next five to ten years. Companies such as Adobe Systems, Ebay, Google, FedEx, and Wal-Mart have already purchased larger sized boxes.
